22 September 2026: the ultimatum
The Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) gave Reddit and Discord 24 hours to establish a presence in the Philippines (Philippine News Agency).

23 September 2026: the extension
After both companies responded within the 24 hours, the CICC extended their timelines. Reddit officials met the agency, discussed "green lanes" for authorities to flag harmful content for fast review, and committed to opening a Philippine office, without giving a date. Discord offered to brief the agency on its teen-safety tools (Rappler, TV5).

What critics said
Tech advocacy group Democracy.net.ph called the move "performative theater", saying the CICC has no mandate to ban social media platforms (Rappler). We report this as their position, not as a legal finding.
